Lizzy McAlpine’s Older, released last week, features 14 new indie pop songs and proves her vocal ability once again.
The album’s title track is about growing up and moving on. This song displays her emotions well, a usual occurrence for McAlpine.
The fourth track, “Movie Star,” describes a feeling she gets from a certain person who treats her great, but only because of her fame. This person does make her feel like a movie star, but it also makes her feel used for her fame. She describes how she does not want to be seen as famous and important for once, just normal.
A fan favorite so far, “Broken Glass” describes her relationship with another person. This relationship has not changed from when they first met, and it has failed to get better. It shows a hidden side to a seemingly good relationship by describing it as “broken glass again,” and that “we started with the end.”
McAlpine never fails to be relatable and make her audience emotional. This is what makes her a good songwriter, but her vocal abilities help her to stand out from other artists. Her talents go beyond just the words that listeners hear, but how she is able to sing them.
