Chris Brown’s X is a generic form of pop the audience should expect from this outdated, wannabe R&B singer. This album is boring and repetitious. Brown attempts innovation and originality, but fails miserably. He is the same old Michael Jackson impersonator he was a few years ago. Songs like “X” and “Add Me In” have the typical synth and auto-tune found in almost every pop song post-2001. These songs are clones of his earlier dance hits like “Forever.” He uses the same lyrics and music he has always used. The song “Loyal” is in every single Vine and is just annoying and over-played. Brown’s vocals on the album should be commended and his duets aren’t bad, but the highlights of this album are nearly meaningless because it’s filled with atrocious lyrics and conventional instrumentals. In the end, the album X is not worth the time, the money, the media storage space, or the brain cells.
