The girls lacrosse team lost to Peters Township on Thursday, 19-5. The game was affected by severe weather, and was even delayed due to hail.
“The entire field was just covered in ice. Everybody kept slipping and sliding,” senior Chloe Sabold said. “We actually had to stop the game for a few minutes.”
The team is still early in its season, but it has struggled to find its first win. On Thursday, Peters outmatched the Highlanders with their cuts to the inside.
“They kept having a lot of cuts and were really quick with their passes.” Sabold said.
Still, the Highlanders brought strong elements to bear and improved their skills.
“We got a lot of good passes in, and all of our goals were really good,” Sabold said.
There were also several players who had strong performances, including juniors Milana Winowich, Aliza Very, and Alexa Sherman, Sabold said.
In practice, the team is working on its offense.
Coach Gianna Alessandro “has been helping us with transitions, getting the ball down the field,” Sabold said.
The team’s next game is next Thursday against Lebo.
