Rapper Kenny Mason is not well known, and his mediocre new album 9 seems unlikely to change that.
Many people do not know about Mason, but he was featured on songs by JID and Dreamville, and he worked on songs with big rappers like Lil Wayne and J Cole.
This is Mason’s fifth album. He has released an album every year since 2020.
The album is short, featuring nine songs that last a total of 26 minutes. Songs like “Jumpin in,” “Slip,” and “Luminous” stand out, but still are not particularly great.
On his previous albums, Mason had features from Freddie Gibbs and Denzel Curry. But on 9 there are only three features, from BabyDrill, Veeze, and Toro Y Moi – generally lesser-known artists. BabyDrill’s and Veeze’s features are forgettable, but Toro Y Moi’s part in “Slip” is decent.
Overall, the album isn’t worth listening to for the average music fan. Rap fans might want to check it out if they are in the mood for a quick, minor album.
