Rapper ScHoolboy Q has released his first album since 2019, but Blue Lips is not worth the long wait.
ScHoolboy is a lesser-known rapper compared to some on the modern scene, but he has hit songs like “Collard Greens” and “Man of the Year,” both of which are on his most acclaimed album, Oxymoron.
His releases that followed Oxymoron have gradually declined in quality, and after fans waited many years for ScHoolboy’s next release, Blue Lips does not live up to the expectations.
The album has some decent songs, like “Yeern 101,” “Thank God 4 Me,” and “Movie,” but none of the tracks compare to the bigger songs that he has produced in the past.
On Oxymoron, he also had amazing features from names like Kenrick Lamar, Tyler, the Creator, and Raekwon. But on Blue Lips, the biggest features are from Rico Nasty and Freddie Gibbs – another decrease in quality.
Gibbs is arguably the biggest name featured on the album, and his feature on “Ohio” enhances the track, but the song overall is not great. As for Rico Nasty, her feature takes value away from an already struggling track, and the whole song is just awful.
Overall, Blue Lips is not horrible, but ScHoolboy has made many better albums in the past.
