Senior Marcus Toto and junior Jazzy Green made the trip to State College to compete in the Indoor State Championship over the weekend, with Toto placed 10th in the long jump.
Competing in states has been one of Toto’s personal goals throughout his jumping career.
“It feels great to accomplish something that I have always wanted to do,” Toto said.
Despite his strong finish, Toto said he could have prepared himself better.
“I’m proud of finishing 10th, but I feel like I should have prepared better mentally going into the meet,” Toto said.
Still, Toto said the whole day was memorable.
“The experience was amazing, being around the best track athletes and watching them shatter records,” Toto said.
Green, who competed in the shot put, agreed.
“Everyone was very impressive,” Green said. “I like watching other people compete.”
She did not do as well as she hoped, but is happy she was able to compete.
“I’m not happy with my performance, but I’m taking it as a learning experience,” she said.
Her favorite experience was the lead-up to the event.
“The day before we stayed in a hotel and got food, so that was fun,” Green said.
She hopes that the next time she competes she can have better technique.
“I should have kept my weight on my right foot in the middle more and stayed back on it,” Green said.
