The Baldwin boys basketball team defeated Hempfeild 63-50 on Tuesday.
This win puts the Highlanders at 16-4 overall and 7-2 in the section. They are still tied for second in the section with Upper Saint Clair.
The team had positives and negatives on both sides of the ball.
“Offensively we started slow and had trouble moving the ball around,” junior Mathew Schenk said.
Despite the slow start, the Highlanders gave each other more open shots and took a decent lead in the second half, Schenk said.
Defensively the team also had ups and downs.
“We had a rough start on defense. We were letting up easy layups,” Schenk said.
The team turned it around with numerous steals, giving them more opportunities on offense, Schenk added.
Junior Jaden Duttine particularly played well, Schenk said.
“Jaden Duttine got put in for Nate Richards in the second half. He came out on fire, hitting threes and doing a good job of running the court,” Schenk said.
The Highlanders’ next game is against Upper Saint Clair this Friday. This is a huge game for Baldwin, as a win would guarantee the team a second-place finish in the section.
