The girls basketball team won 42-38 against Canon-Mac in a home section game on Friday.
Junior Mary Vargo thought that the Highlanders forced Canon-Mac turnovers, which led the team to their victory.
“Our defense is our strongest point, and we managed to get a number of turnovers, which helped us a lot,” Vargo said.
Sophomore Laci Bernotas noted more highlights.
“We moved the ball well and pushed in transition. The opposing team got to the hoop often, but we outmatched them,” Bernotas said.
Vargo praised sophomore Isabella Niles, saying she played a huge role in the outcome of the game.
“Her rebounding helped us a lot, and she also hit a three-point shot that tied the game,” Vargo said.
Bernotas acknowledged both pros and cons of her team’s performance this season.
“We could do better when it comes defending our lead in the game,” Bernotas said. “We’ve had a lot of close games we didn’t win, so I’m hoping we do better going forward.”
This win brings their section record to 2-9.
The team’s next game is tonight against Bethel Park at home.
