Baldwin’s wrestling team lost 53-15 against North Allegheny in the first round of WPIAL playoffs on Wednesday.
“It started off bad and we couldn’t come back,” senior Riley Kavalo said.
North Allegheny’s team was well rounded, and Baldwin could not keep up. But this playoff loss is hard “because I felt like we should’ve gone further,” senior Tyler Carter said.
There were a few bright moments for the Highlanders. Senior Keith Mincin and junior Ramil Islamov both landed pins.
Despite the loss, this was a big season for the team. This was the first time in 20 years that a Baldwin wrestling team made the WPIAL playoffs.
Even though this match did not go the way they had hoped for, hopes are high for the future.
“I think we probably have young talent coming up from the middle school, so I think they will definitely be able to get it together and make it back there soon,” Carter said.
