The boys basketball team defeated Canon Mac 67-57 on Tuesday to clinch playoffs for the fourth year in a row.
After leading at the half by eight points, the Highlanders never looked back and stayed in the lead the whole second half.
The Highlanders had many positives on the defensive side of the ball.
“Great help-side defense made it hard for them to score around the hoop. The communication was also on point the entire game,” junior Jason Cimador said.
Offensively the team also did well.
“We moved the ball around well. We also took smart shots and had good offensive rebounding,” Cimador said.
Junior Nate Wesling said junior Matt Schenk had a big impact on the game with his double-double.
“His 15 points boosted us on both sides of the ball,” Wesling said. “When our defense started to go away, he was there to pull us back.”
Wesling, meanwhile, led the Highlanders with 18 points.
He said that clinching the playoffs is just the beginning for the team.
“I think we can compete with every team in our section,” he said. “I think we have the best roster in all of 6A.”
The Highlanders’ next game is on Friday at Norwin at 7:30 p.m.
