Odysseus is presented with wind trapped by the god Aeolus in the next saga of the ongoing rock project called Epic: The Musical.
Epic: The Ocean Saga, by Jorge Rivera-Herrans, features four songs that summarize the section of The Odyssey in which Odysseus and his crew are forced to endure a storm sent by the sea god, Poseidon.
The new songs, specifically the final duo, have quickly become favorites among fans due to the addition of Steven Rodriguez to the cast as Poseidon.
Rodriguez makes his first appearance at the end of “Keep Your Friends Close” after a chorus echoes his character’s name. Between the heavy music and his deep voice, it is clear why he was chosen to play Poseidon.
He embodies the commanding respect yet chaotic manner of the character in the original epic.
As Poseidon continues to list his grievances, the last song of the album begins. Rodriguez’s strong voice blends with the booming instrumental to bring the listener into the moment, feeling the sea god’s rage.
Between the spot-on casting and rich instrumental, Rivera-Herrans has released a near-perfect album, leaving only the complaint that it is not longer.
