Tate McRae’s new album is different from her first, but Think Later shows McRae’s improvement and maturity in her writing and the sound of the music.
The style of Think Later is new for McRae’s listeners. Throughout the album, she experiments with indie/alternative sounds such as in “We’re Not Alike” and “Guilty Conscious.”
McRae has explained how she wanted to incorporate her past in dance into the album, and she does just that. Songs such as “Greedy” or “Exes” are the perfect songs to get up and dance to.
The album feels cohesive and goes through all the raw emotions in a relationship. It provides songs for all emotions that anybody can relate to.
On the first track, “Cut My Hair,” it is clear that McRae’s music has shifted. The idea of cutting her hair represents getting rid of her old bitter self and changing into a more mature version of herself. This theme continues throughout the album.
Like any other pop star, McRae loves to make a song sad. “Grave” captures the realization that trying to fix a person in a relationship doesn’t work. She describes the feelings of having to let someone go.
Think Later overall is a great and successful album. The album is definitely underrated and McRae’s best work in her career so far.
