The Baldwin unified bocce team was defeated by Thomas Jefferson 3-1 on Thursday.
Senior Rylee Glus said seniors Dominic Meloni and Emma Lieu played well at their first match of the season.
“The first match was really exciting. There is always such a positive energy at all of the matches,” Glus said. “There were a good amount of fans there to watch us as well, which was really great to see.”
In bocce, each of the two eight-person Baldwin teams played two matches, one each against the two TJ teams.
“Each match lasts 30 minutes, and whoever has the most points scored at the end of each match wins. Points are scored by whoever has the most bocce balls closer to the little yellow ball, called the pallino,” Glus said.
Glus said that the team’s practices have been going well.
“We have been planning and practicing different strategies to ensure we are prepared for any situation we will encounter,” she said.
“Our overall goal is to just have fun and hopefully we can make it to the playoffs later on in the season,” she said.
The team’s next match is Jan. 16 versus Brashear at home.
