The Netflix original movie Family Switch brings pop culture and comedy in a festive way just in time for Christmas.
The film features Jennifer Garner, Ed Helms, Howie Mandel, and Emma Myers. It offers a holiday take on the movie Freaky Friday, as the family members swap bodies as Christmas nears.
Viewers follow the Walker family as the mother and father swap bodies with daughter and son, respectively. Another funny twist in the film is that the baby swaps bodies with the family dog.
A notable scene in Family Switch shows the family dog running away from home after the body swap. While the baby inhabits the dog’s body, a neighbor lectures the mother about training him.
Family Switch is a great film for the family, with comedy for all ages. However, there are weak points in the film, as some moments seem to try too hard for laughs.
The film also offers pop culture references, including one to the 2004 film 13 Going on 30, another film with a similar premise – and which Garner also starred in.
The soundtrack had many Christmas hits, including “Run Rudolph Run” by Chuck Berry, “The Christmas” by Nat King Cole, and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” by Frankie Valli. Other songs in the film also include “Bust a Move” by Young MC and “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5.
Family Switch is a good one-time watch, but definitely isn’t remarkable.
Viewers who enjoy Freaky Friday should definitely give Family Switch a watch for a more festival aspect of this comedy genre.
