Senior wrestlers Keith Mincin and Andrew Sharp and junior Ramil Islamov finished in first place in their weight classes in the North Coast Classic over the weekend.
Senior Owen Klodowski came in third place. The team finished eighth overall out of 32 teams.
“It feels great to come home with first place. I feel like I really competed well,” Mincin said.
The win was a huge confidence booster for Mincin.
“This has definitely made me more confident because I knocked off some of the top kids in the state of Ohio,” Mincin said.
Islamov complimented Klodowski for his performance.
“Owen Klodowski ended up doing really well,” Islamov said.
Although he received first place, Islamov feels like there is work to be done.
“I can build off this win individually by just keeping working on the areas that I am not as strong in and trying to correct the mistakes I’ve made at the tournament,” Islamov said.
Islamov feels the team has a lot of potential but they aren’t there yet.
“We need to focus on stamina because a lot of our guys were out of breath. We also need to focus on working with some of the younger guys, teaching them moves so they can be ready to perform when we need them to,” Islamov said.
The Highlanders will face Mt. Lebanon away on Dec. 20.
