As one of three Baldwin athletes honored this week for being named First Team All-Section for fall sports, senior soccer player Mike Fry said it was a good way to end his high school career.
“It was nice to see all of the hard work over the years pay off,” said Fry, who has been playing since he was 4 years old.
On Thursday, Fry and senior football players John Kozar and Andrew Sharp attended the annual Big 56 First Team All-Section banquet. The banquet is for WPIAL athletes who stood out to other coaches throughout their respective seasons.
Fry had offers to continue his soccer career at Pitt-Greensburg, La Roche University, and Carlow University, but is choosing to stick to his academics. He plans to attend West Virginia University next year to study business and won’t play soccer there.
Sharp and Kozar, who both are undecided about their plans for next year, were both captains of the Highlander football team this year.
Sharp said enjoyed having a teammate with him at the banquet.
“I was definitely more comfortable with Kozar there. I know he has my back. I wish we could have more teammates there, but I’m sure we will in the future,” Sharp said.
Kozar also enjoyed the experience of the banquet.
“It’s always cool to see a bunch of great athletes grouped together like that, especially football players that I got the chance to play against this season,” Kozar said.
Sharp also had been named first team all-section last year.
“It was a lot of the same, but it was nice to see new athletes I know from other schools improve and make it there,” Sharp said.
