The Rocket League esports team lost its match against Pocono West on Wednesday.
Baldwin was swept in three games by scores of 3-0, 3-0, and 4-2. Freshman Ethan Green said he was disappointed with the result of the match but recognized the skill of the opposing team.
“The other team was good at aerials,” which is hitting the ball while it’s in the air, Green said. “One of their players had a double touch off the wall and put it right into the net, which is difficult to do. They also seemed like they had good chemistry with each other.”
This was the team’s final season game before the playoffs. Sophomore Braydon Parker said the match provided a good opportunity for the team to see what they need to work on going into the playoffs.
“We did good defensively, but we lacked on offense,” Parker said. “They had really strong offense. So even though we did well, our defense broke sometimes.”
Green said Parker had a particularly strong performance throughout the match.
“Braydon Parker had a good game. He was able to save a lot of shots,” Green said. “The scores could have been much worse if it weren’t for him.”
Green thought that Baldwin did a good job at keeping up with a particularly tough opponent.
“We did a good job defending their shots. Two of their players were grand champs” which is the second highest rank in the game. “Compared to the skill level of our team, they were much better, so we did a good job at hanging with them,” Green said.
The team’s first playoff match is next Wednesday, but their opponent has not been determined yet.
