Although the Baldwin Highlander football team fell to Mount Lebanon on Friday night, 37-6, the boys still had a memorable night at their senior rec game.
Seniors Mwango Kasuba, Andrew Sharp, and Keith Mincin said it was both weird and upsetting playing their last game at Baldwin.
“It was weird knowing I wouldn’t be able to suit up again in front of the community,” Kasuba said.
Mincin agreed.
“It felt very sad and emotional, especially walking across the field for senior rec, knowing it was my last ever time I was going to play a full football game there,” he said.
All three players were hoping to pull off a win for the last home game, and they felt well prepared with a good chance to win.
“I really wanted to win this game and leave on a high note for the next year,” Mincin said.
Sharp said the Highlanders made too many mistakes on Friday to pull off the win, regardless of the preparations they made.
Mincin and Sharp said a player who still did particularly well was junior Cenzo Pacella for his blocking. Mincin said junior Nate Mickolay’s kicking abilities helped the team, as well.
Sharp said despite the challenges they faced each week, the team is improving. Mincin agreed and said along with their overall playing, “we improved our brotherhood and connections within the team, and our communication skills between each other on and off the field.”
The boys said they will all miss playing with each other and look forward to the last game this Friday, which will be played at Moon Area High School at 7 p.m.
