Baldwin’s competitive cheer team placed first in their gameday and mat performances and was crowned overall grand champions on Sunday at a competition at Thomas Jefferson High School.
The girls competed against teams from Belle Vernon, Ambridge, Ringgold, Bethel, Mt. Lebanon, and Plum.
Senior Brooklyn Lucas said that the team’s strong communication enabled them to succeed.
“As a team, we did well communicating and listening to each other. It takes a lot of motivation and energy to get through the routines, and we all help each other push ourselves to make it to the end,” Lucas said.
Junior Leah Moeller agreed.
“The team did well recovering from any mess-ups during our performances,” Moeller said.
Both Lucas and Moeller agree that the team will continue to perfect its routines and stunts for upcoming competitions.
The Highlanders’ next competition is the UCA Regionals in Columbus, Ohio, Sunday.
