Fourteen members of Baldwin’s girls and boys cross country teams qualified for WPIALs at Tri-States on Thursday night.
Sophomore Alex Castaneda placed first for the boys team.
“Alex Castaneda proved how amazing of a runner he is, and he gets a great chance next week to continue to show his skills,” sophomore Anna Plunkett said. “He was able to get a new personal record for the season.”
Sophomore Tanner Zalar also praised Castaneda.
“Alex has been consistently good the entire season, so it was no surprise that he was our best runner. He’s just the best we have and he continued to prove it.”
Senior Kenzie Hirt, who placed first for the girls, continued her dominance.
“Kenzie Hirt is the best girls runner we have. She competes well and sticks with her teammates and uses them to push herself to be even better,” Zalar said.
The girls who qualified for WPIALs are Hirt, Jules Ott, Molly Gorman, Bella Niles, Eliza Swanson, Mallory Mezevitch, and Kenzie Bowen.
The boys who qualified are Castenada, Ryan Priano, Kacee Davenport, Caleb Fruscello, Zalar, McKinley Beech and Nolan Geary.

Thanks for not including me even though I’m the 4th runner in the team

Sorry, Caleb. We were given the name of the alternate instead. We have corrected the story.
