The Baldwin girls soccer team won 1-0 against Hempfield on Wednesday night.
Senior Haley Nieman said the team did a very good job of maintaining possession of the ball.
“We had a lot of offensive opportunities throughout the game, and did a good job having control over the ball,” Nieman said.
Senior Mikalah Beardsley agreed.
“We were really good” on offense, Beardsley said.
Ella Schwarzmiller scored the winning goal late in the first half.
“The goal was the turning point of the game,” Nieman said. “It gave us a lot of momentum going into the second half.”
Nieman said the entire backline of the team played well.
“Emma Lieu, Mikalah Beardsley, and Riley Shaw stood out to me,” Nieman said. “They made sure that the other team did not get any opportunities to attack against us.”
This was the girls soccer team’s second-to-last game.
“I really liked nearing the end of this season with this win,” Beardsley said.
Nieman agreed that after having a rough season, it is nice to have a good win near the end.
“This year was a real turning point for our team,” Nieman said. “I am excited to see what the future holds for this team in later years. I expect them to move up.”
The girls’ last game is Monday against Cannon-Mac at home.
