The girls cross country team placed first and the boys’ team placed second at the Red Flash Invitational on Saturday.
Four Baldwin runners from the girls’ team placed in the top 10, with senior Kenzie Hirt placing first — and breaking the course record.
“It felt really good getting first since it was an invitational win,” Hirt said. “In terms of confidence, it feels good being able to get first against schools I’ve never raced against.”
Sophomore Jules Ott placed third, senior Mallory Mezeivtch placed fifth, and sophomore Molly Gorman placed seventh for the Baldwin girls.
“I think that we just all kept good places instead of going for time,” Gorman said. “I think that helped because we needed more than just Kenzie and Jules to win”
It’s a formula the team can use for success, she said.
“As a team, we should all collectively push each other more so we can have more players in the top 10,” Gorman said.
On the boys’ side, junior Ryan Priano placed fifth.
“The boys did good,” Gorman said.
Hirtz said it was a solid day for both teams.
“We all took the race hard and thought it’d be a fast race,” Hirt said. “Everyone pushed themselves and we were able to get a lot of top 10 placements.”
