Grandson looks inward on new record

Grandson’s newest album, I Love You, I’m Trying, is a symbolic cry for help from the artist, acknowledging the fact that someone’s best might not be enough and how that’s acceptable.
With this album, the American-Canadian singer focuses on illustrating the struggles of modern everyday life, such as mental health and self-esteem, and how real these issues can be.
The unique name “Grandson” comes from his grandfather. The artist wanted to honor this fatherly figure as he had been a very big influence in the artist’s life. The name is also a symbolic way of providing the audience with a feeling of nostalgia.
The artist’s debut single, “Blood//Water,” was released in 2018 and rapidly became popular around the country. Grandson’s music also has been showcased in popular movies such as the Suicide Squad, in a collaboration with the singer Jesse Reyes on the song “Rain.”
On the new album, songs such as ‘Eulogy’ and ‘Half My Heart’ express the author’s struggles with life, while also creating a sense of relatability within the lyrics.
‘Enough’ speaks on issues such as feeling worthless and wanting a “savior.” But it points out that people need to save themselves because nobody else will.
While the album is pretty similar to his previous work, Grandson presents modernized versions of real-world struggles.
Grandson has come very far since his debut, demonstrating the person he truly is by simply being himself with his fanbase.
