All Time Low’s Tell Me I’m Alive isn’t anything special to add to their discography, but still provides catchy songs.

All Time Low had previously been a part of the emo scene in the early 2000s, but they’ve been gradually changing their sound to alt-pop, made for wider audiences.

Each of the songs on the album maintains a catchy and light musicality to them, yet they have emotional depth in their lyrics.

The upbeat title track, “Tell Me I’m Alive,” opens the album with a celebration of self-destructive behavior being used to “feel something.” This is less than ideal, yet it can be relatable for audience members who are looking for a positive angle to the emotional hardship in the world.

The track “Sleepwalking” experiments more with more synthetic beats to create a danceable song about missing a lover through a heartbreak. The song is fine, but there are only a few beats that stand out.

One standout song is “English Blood/American Heartache.” The song is like a celebration of life and mistakes, and the happy tones of the music create a nostalgic feeling. The lyrics focus on loving yourself because of mistakes and individuality in lines like “I know who I am/Who I am is good enough for me.”

Kill Ur Vibe” feels like an attempt at an older band trying to stay relevant by writing about fading. It relates to the feeling of not being able to keep up but does not allow for the desperation to translate into the music.

All in all the album is okay but has no variation. For people who are looking for simplistic upbeat pop music, it could be worth a listen. But others won’t be missing much.
