Unprisoned serves as a pleasant family watch dealing with the life of a formerly incarcerated relative and family trauma. 

Female lead Paige Alexander is a therapist who lives as a single mother with her 16-year-old son, Finn. She will soon live with her father, Edwin Alexander, who had been incarcerated for 17 years and has yet to meet his grandson.

She documents milestones of her life through making live streams and videos on the internet. Paige has to learn to extend forgiveness towards her father for being absent for the majority of her life. 

The Hulu series eloquently conveys the process of navigating life for a newly released prison inmate. It establishes the theme of self-betterment and forgiveness. 

Edwin faces the hardships of conforming to regular living and society after years of being imprisoned, for there is a particular stigma towards formerly incarcerated individuals The series reflects an accurate and relatable view of the criminal justice system and relationships with confined individuals.
