The charmingly controversial show South Park has returned with another season that manages to both innovate and feel fresh while simultaneously returning to the classic formula.

So far, season 26 of the animated series created two great episodes: one targeting Kanye West and another focusing on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Overall, this season has started strong and makes light of recent events in a way that conveys the emotions of the public watching them unfold. As usual, South Park criticizes celebrity culture.

The first episode focuses on Kanye’s recent controversies. Eric Cartman’s imaginary “cupid,” who returns every Valentine’s Day, stops taking his medicine and begins to call himself “Cupid-Ye.”

The plot of this episode shows Kyle and the recently renamed Tolkien filming TikToks with one another. Cartman notices and starts a rumor that Kyle runs Hollywood – a reference to Kanye’s recent antisemitic outbursts – in an attempt to separate Kyle and Tolkien.

The second episode of the newest season involves Prince Harry and Meghan Markle traveling across the world on a “privacy tour.” The two eventually visit South Park and decide to move across the street from Kyle. The problem, though, is that the two want to make it very clear to everyone that they want their privacy – by invading the privacy of everyone else.

These episodes take a step back from the issues and criticize the ridiculousness of Kanye’s beliefs and the Prince’s very public quest for privacy.
