The Baldwin boys basketball team lost in overtime on Friday to Upper Saint Clair, 66-64.

The Highlanders looked like the overpowering team in the first quarter. They slowed a little in the second quarter, but remained in the lead. Yet by the end of the fourth quarter, USC had caught up.

“In the first half we played at our pace, so USC felt pressured,” sophomore Nate Wesling said. “But in the second half USC played at their pace so we felt pressured.”

This loss adds to the team’s series of late-game losses.

“It seems like we can never pull through with the win, but we are not discouraged by any means,” Wesling said.

The Highlanders seemed to be in the right spot at the right time during the game.

“We got open looks by winning rebounds and cutting back door on USC defenders,” Wesling said.

Senior Christian Forgacs thinks the team needs to continue fighting harder during ball control.

“We need to improve on not forcing the ball and not forcing shots. We should start grinding out possessions more and looking for better shots,” Forgacs said.

Wesling complemented his brother, senior James Wesling.

“He had 15 rebounds. He was just playing confident and he wanted the ball,” Wesling said.

The Highlanders had three players score double digits. The younger Wesling had 12, and the older brother had 24 points. Sophomore Matt Schenck also had 12 points.

Baldwin plays tonight in a non-section game at Peters Township at 7:30 p.m.
