After 13 years of waiting, Avatar fans are happy to see the Na’vi back in action.

Avatar: The Way of Water begins by focusing on the lovable family made up of returning characters Jake Sully and wife, Neytiri. They now have four children and have lived peacefully for a number of years after their home was destroyed by the “sky people” – their term for humans – in the first movie.

Their peace is interrupted, though, by the returning villain, Colonel Quaritch, who has come back from the dead as an Avatar. Seeking revenge on Jake Sully and his family for his death in the first movie, Quaritch and his army destroy Pandora to get to Jake. While the humans are unsuccessful, Jake’s family flees its home to seek sanctuary with the Metkayina Clan, or water Na’vi, and learn their ways of living through the water.

Avatar: The Way of Water is a well written movie. Incorporating Colonel Quaritch into the sequel is entertaining as well as nostalgic for original Avatar fans.

Most fans did not expect the Avatar sequel to be better than the first. But after a 13-year wait, the plot and a few characters could have been more developed. The movie lacks development in some scenes.

The movie visually is made well, with realistic graphics and intricate detail. The incorporation of another Na’vi tribe is also an interesting perspective that keeps viewers present.

Overall, Avatar: The Way of Water is not an impressive movie as a sequel, but individually is still a great movie.
