New country duo Dan + Shay have released their debut album, Where It All Began, after meeting a year prior. This 12-song country album is filled with lighthearted melodies of love. The duo sings about everything from butterflies on a first date to knowing when a relationship is over. “Parking Break” is the perfect upbeat summer anthem with lyrics about fireflies and late-night drives. Although the duo has strong vocals and an album full of original songs, many of the songs blend together and are easily forgotten. The final song, “Close Your Eyes,” sounds more like an Owl City song rather than something in the country genre. The songs are filled with cheesy lyrics with no real passion or emotion involved. Individually, each song has a unique story that could make any person want to fall in love, but listeners will eventually find themselves hoping for the album to end.
