This has been a big year for video games, with such releases as Overwatch 2, Bayonetta 3, and Nintendo Switch Sports. The year isn’t finished, though, and here are some upcoming video game releases to look for as the holidays roll around.

Sonic Frontiers is the newest action-adventure game in the well-known Sonic The Hedgehog media franchise. Sonic Frontiers, however, is a change of pace compared to other Sonic games. For the first time in the series, the game features an open-world map. It offers many puzzles and enemies to defeat as the player collects the Chaos Emeralds. 

Sonic Frontiers takes place in the Starfall Islands, where Sonic separates from his other friends. The game also introduces a new villain, Sage, who attempts to thwart Sonic’s plans to escape the mysterious island. Sonic Frontiers is available on Nintendo Switch and is being released this week.

God of War: Ragnarok is also an action-adventure game focused on a father named Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they journey through the nine realms and fight to stop Ragnarok. It is the sequel and final game in the God of War series. The game leans heavily on Norse mythology, featuring characters such as Loki, Odin, and Thor.

 In 2018, the original God of War was one of the most successful Playstation 4 games, selling over 23 million copies. But many believe that the sequel will live up to its original. God of War: Ragnarok is available on Playstation 4 and 5 and comes out this week.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is a battle royale game and a sequel to the highly regarded Call of Duty: Warzone. This game uses an entirely new sandbox mode and engine.

Developers have teased new features such as swimming, 2v2 battles, and strongholds. The game also introduces a new map: Al Mazrah, a vast metropolis featuring an oasis, observatories, coastal towns, and much more to explore. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is available on all consoles, along with PC, and comes out on Nov. 16, 2022.
