The Baldwin hockey team opened its season on Monday night with a 5-4 over Seneca Valley.

After being down early, Baldwin picked up goals from junior Tanner Plinta and seniors Dean Reed, Levi McCrea, Ben Cramer, and Matt O’Malley.

McCrea said one key to the victory was the Baldwin power play.

“We capitalized on two straight power plays,” McCrea said.

He also complimented senior goalie Alex Golvash, who made 50 saves.

“He was the main reason we won,” he said. “He kept us in it the whole game.”

Plinta praised Reed and Cramer for their goals. He also said that starting off the season with a win sets the tone for what the team can do.

“It definitely gives us a lot of momentum,” Plinta said.

McCrea thinks the team still has some places to improve.

“Our forecheck and defensive zone play in general was sloppy,” he said.

Their next game is on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Ice Castle against Cathedral Prep.
