Golf team members fall short of WPIAL sectionals
September 19, 2022
Baldwin golf team members participated in a qualification match on Thursday but did not reach WPIAL sectionals.`
The boys competed against a tough group made up of the best players from Thomas Jefferson, Mt. Lebanon, Bethel Park, Canon-McMillan, and Peters Township.
Though there were not any qualifications. senior Will Dempsey complimented his teammates for their performance. Senior Alex Golvash shot 87, and both senior Carson Gregg and senior Nicholas Laplace shot 94.
“Alex Golvash was our best player by a long shot. He was only five strokes away from qualifying,” Dempsey said.
Dempsey thought that their long game was good, but their short game and approach shots needed work.
Sophomore Brady Malloy offered his thoughts on how the team could improve.
“The team could do a better job of showing up and giving their best effort despite our odds of losing,” Malloy said.
Though they did not qualify and have not picked up a team win this season, Dempsey is content with how the season has gone.
“It’s been a great experience, and it’s a great group of guys. We went out and got some golf in. As far as WPIALs go, it’s a hard course – one of the hardest in PA. It was challenging to qualify,” Dempsey said.
The team has two matches left which will finish up their season. Their next match is Tuesday against Thomas Jefferson.
