The softball team defeated Upper St. Clair 8-5 last Thursday, as they prepare for WPIAL playoffs.

Freshman Gabby Jaquay said she was excited about the win.

“It boosted our energy up. It made us even more confident,” Jaquay said.

The Highlander offense had a big game, she said.

“We had one inning where we scored five runs and we were super hyped,” Jaquay said. “Then we got in the field and we had a double play so that (inning) ended really early.”

Throughout the season, the Highlanders have taken some big steps, she said.

“We got closer as a team outside of softball, so that helps whenever we are playing the game,” Jaquay said. “Our hitting got better as well, and the same with our fielding. We are really consistent now.”

The team has qualified for WPIAL playoffs, which is a big achievement for them.

“Yeah, I think we should do pretty well in the playoffs. It’s exciting,” Jaquay said.
