Baldwin indoor percussion took first place at TIA championships, which were held at Baldwin on Saturday.

Indoor percussion also received a Tournament Indoor Association award for most improved score. Baldwin’s color guard, meanwhile, placed second in its competition.

The overall effort from the percussion team secured the first place spot. Ryan Armstrong, Sierra Schmidt, and Ryan Bramson all performed exceptionally well, sophomore Matt Colwell said.

“Ryan (Armstrong) just learned how to play the piano this year and did amazing, and Sierra has been in this for four years,” Colwell said.

Baldwin also had a memorial for Joey Kniola, a band member who passed away this year.

“We decorated the instruments with flowers and there was not a dry eye in the crowd,” Schmidt said.

This was Schmidt’s last high school competition. She said it was her best performance and that it also was a great way for her to end her career at Baldwin.

“It feels awesome, especially with a home show. It feels great with all the effort,” Schmidt said.
