Tame Impala’s new remix album is stylistically diverse

Tame Impala’s newest album, The Slow Rush B-Sides & Remixes, offers listeners new songs and creative remixes of older ones.
The record is a follow-up to The Slow Rush, which debuted two years ago. The tracklist features six remixes and two new songs made in the same vein as the songs from the prior album.
Although the album is heavy on remixes, it manages to hold its own through the new songs and the distinct takes on older ones. At times, the remixes entirely alter the sound and genre of the original track. “Patience (Maurice Fulton Remix)” is one such example.
The featured artists also help create a unique feel in the remixed tracks. For example, this album’s rendition of “Breathe Deeper” features Lil Yachty with a different rapping style.
The record succeeds at genre-hopping between disco, slow rock, and synth-pop, while still coming off as cohesive.
The usage of stereo in the album is also noteworthy. Shifting of audio channels between left and right speakers creates an experience in which the listener feels surrounded by the music.
However, though the album is strong in creativity and instrumentation, it is sometimes lacking in lyrical content. In some songs, lyrics take the backseat to the music and are mostly used as supporting samples.
This stylistic decision increases the atmospheric value of the music, but could alienate listeners who are more focused on the lyrics.
