Baldwin’s boys and girls track teams both defeated West Mifflin and Thomas Jefferson at their first section meet on Tuesday.

“We went in with an optimistic attitude,” sophomore Mallory Mezeivitch said.

In the mile, senior Bobby Konesky came in first and junior Andrew Barrett came in second. In the 800, Barrett came in first, and senior Dom Ditoro came in second. Senior Kevin Weber won the high jump in his first competition in that event.

Sophomore Kenzie Hirt came in first for the mile. Senior Morgan Altavilla came in first in the 400, and sophomore Eliza Swanson came in first in the 3200. Abbey Herrle did well in her field events.

Junior Phil Pegher is a distance runner who has started competing in the hurdles as well to help the team.

“The meet was good. It was a bit rough – I need to get my steps down. But the meet went well overall, along with the hurdles, Pegher said.

Mezeivitch said the track team is welcoming and everyone is easy to get along with.

“Everyone pushes you to do your best,” Mezevitch said.
