The boys tennis team picked up a win on Thursday by defeating Canon-Mac 3-2.

Junior Daniel Khalil said that the team played well, but the score did not fully reflect it.

“We played better than them overall. It definitely shouldn’t have been that close,” Khalil said.

Khalil said the team has improved on its overall consistency as well as taking stronger hits on the ball.

Senior Sergej Stojanovic agreed.

“We’ve beaten Canon-Mac in the past, so it was good to see we’re staying consistent,” Stojanovic said.

Khalil said there are some minor things the team needs to work on.

“I think we need to be more confident. We’re too stiff when we’re playing,” Khalil said.

Stojanovic agreed.

“Everyone plays very well in practice, but during a match the team tends to let their nerves get the best of them,” Stojanovic said.

Khalil said junior Owen Garofalo played a standout game.

“He had really good serves, which contributed to our win,” Khalil said.

The team plays Shadyside Academy on Tuesday. Khalil thinks the team has a solid chance of winning, since Shadyside has lost to Shaler, an opponent the Highlanders have defeated in the past.
