The softball team earned a comeback win over Steel Valley on Friday, winning 6-5.

Sophomore Anna Schumacher pitched a solid first three innings and her sister, junior Grace Schumacher, finished off the last four innings.

“Both of our pitchers played well,” senior Maleah Pacella said. “We as a team all played well and stepped up when it mattered most.”

The Highlanders had a 4-1 lead at the end of the first inning. But by the end of the second, they were down 5-4.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth inning, Pacella stepped up to the plate.

“I wasn’t nervous. I was actually laughing,” Pacella said. “I knew if given the chance I could hit this ball over the fence. However, I was walked.”

The winning run came from a rundown after Steel Valley tried to pick off Pacella at first base.

Anna Schumacher said the win comes because the team is improving.

“We are playing better from the first time we played,” she said.

The Highlanders get back into action today, playing away at Peters Township. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
