Netflix’s new animated show Kotaro Lives Alone revolves around the life of a boy named Kotaro, who moves into an apartment complex alone and makes friends with his neighbors.

Kotaro seems to have no parental figures in his life and takes care of himself despite being only 4 years old. He is polite and acts very mature for his age.

The show is very good at reflecting on what bad upbringing and abuse can do to a child.

At first, the show starts as a light-hearted comedy, with a message of kindness and Kotaro being introduced to the people around him. But then the show takes a serious, heart-wrenching shift and his lack of childish antics no longer seem amusing.

Kotaro is guarded about his life, and with every episode, viewers learn more about Kotaro’s past.

As the plot advances, viewers see the neighbors living around Kotaro experiencing growth of their own as they learn to accommodate Kotaro into their lives.

Even though the show introduces characters in a rush and doesn’t provide backstories, it is worth a watch for those who like heartfelt stories.

The story itself is very wholesome and is sure to at least bring some water into viewers’ eyes.
