Baldwin’s competitive cheer team placed seventh at the state competition over the weekend.
Junior Sammy Davis said the competition was difficult and featured competitive teams. Still, the Highlanders gave their best effort.
“I honestly think we put our best foot forward and really showed what the team can do,” Davis said.
Certain members of the team stood out during the competition. Freshman Alayna Scanlon injured her back the first day of competitions but recovered and put together one of her best performances the next day.
“She killed it. She did amazing,” Davis said.
Junior Ava Wodarek said the seniors on the team have stepped up as leaders. They have been working hard trying to perfect their routine, making sure every move is on point.
They have worked “weeks and months, every day of every week,” Davis said.
They are working on having a flawless routine for nationals which takes place in Orlando, Florida on Feb. 9-14.
“We are trying to get more reps of our pyramid and working on that but overall we work well together and are excited for nationals,” Wodarek said.
