Senior Morgan Altavilla scored a late basket to help the girls basketball team defeat Peters Township 45-43 on Thursday in their first section game of the season.

“It felt amazing to score the last shot, because I knew I had really helped the team secure the win,” Altavilla said. 

Peters won the WPIAL championship and states two years ago, so the Highlanders knew it would be a tough game.

“They’re a really competitive team, so the win was really rewarding. We’ve also been focusing more on our consistency, so last night was definitely a confidence booster,” Altavilla said. 

Altavilla said that sophomore Katie Lucarelli and junior Bre Swailes both played really well. 

“They had strong passes and maintained a positive attitude the whole game,” she said. 

The team plays again on Saturday away against Woodland Hills.
