Anyone looking for a show with a strong female lead will enjoy Yona of the Dawn, an action-adventure show that will keep viewers rooting for the protagonist until the end.

The show aired from 2014-2015, but never got the popularity that it deserved since it technically fell under the shoujo category, marketed to girls. It is now available on Crunchyroll.

The show follows the story of a princess who grew up very sheltered in a peaceful kingdom until one day, everything fell apart. The viewers get to watch the main character, Yona, as she learns what life is actually like in her kingdom and tries to gain back the power that was taken from her.

The character development is better in this show than any other, and it is very interesting to watch such a young girl struggle for her life as she matures through the experience she gains throughout her adventure. 

This show has everything, including complicated family relations, political struggles, found families, and romance. The characters all have well-written backstories with arcs focusing solely on them, which keeps the viewers watching as things are revealed, little by little, about their favorite characters. 

Female characters who are well-written are sadly rare in anime, but this show goes against that stereotype completely. The show covers many genres so that anyone who enjoys a good story full of adventure would love this show.
