Boys Varsity Tennis has first win in season over Seton-LaSalle

Baldwin’s varsity boys tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Thursday, defeating Seton-LaSalle, 4-2.

Seton-LaSalle did not play poorly, but sophomore Daniel Khalil and sophomore David Werner said the Highlanders were better.

“All of our singles won 6-0, except for one of them that went to 6-2. The doubles team was also 6-0,” Khalil said.

Seton-LaSalle was determined and never lost hope.

“They seemed like beginners but they didn’t give up. They kept trying,” Werner said.

One of the key players who led to the victory was sophomore Braden Yokopenic.

“He won a lot of points and had a good serve the whole match,” Khalil said.

The win for Baldwin will boost the confidence and morale of the team going forward, Khalil said. The Highlanders know they still have to improve in some areas, but are looking for more wins in the future.

“I am hoping that we slowly progress and get better and win more games,” Khalil said.

The team’s next match is at North Hills today.
