What to Binge Watch: Close Enough delivers comedy
February 19, 2021
One reason to binge watch the HBO Max animated series Close Enough is that it was created by JG Quintell, and besides Regular Show, Quintel has worked on various hit series including The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Phineas and Ferb, and Adventure Time.
On these programs he served as a storyboard artist, creative director, writer, and storyboard revisionist, so Quintel knows his stuff. The first season of his current series is amazing and it rivals his other works in quality.
Viewers first will also recognize that Close Enough’s animation and style is exactly like Quintel’s past work, which is phenomenal.
The series also resonates with the audience. The two main leads, Josh and Emily, are parents of a 5-year-old named Candice, and they are struggling financially due to student debt, living in Los Angeles, and having their daughter in a decent school district. They also deal with everyday issues with a touch of craziness.
A lot of the show’s comedy comes from three of its characters: Josh, the oblivious but well-meaning dad; Alex, an eccentric and wild college professor; and Bridgette, who has a habit of getting into trouble.
Among the additional reasons to watch: Every character is three dimensional and the show is overall very heartwarming.
