The Baldwin dance team captured first place in its first competition of the year this weekend at Peterson Event Center.

The team also earned a special judge’s award for best turns.

Sponsor Sara Nairn said she was proud of the team’s accomplishment. She noted that last year the team performed in one competition and also took first.

“I hope we can continue our winning streak,” she said. “We definitely set a high standard, but there is always room to grow.”

Nairn said the girls have grown more as a team since last year.

“I think they have more of an identity as a team as opposed to last year,” Nairn said. ”They know the type of dance they want to do, and they know the type of things they’re best at, so they have a better understanding of who they are as a team.”

The team will compete again in two weeks in a bid to continue that winning streak.
