With a dominating shutout of West Allegheny on Friday night, the football team is in a good situation to make the playoffs for the first time in more than five years.

“We played a really good game,” quarterback Mason Stahl said. “We always go into games with confidence and this was by far one of our best turnouts.”

After halftime the team began to dominate, starting with a touchdown by Angelo Priore. Wide receiver Naseer Penn had an outstanding game, including a long touchdown reception.

“I took a post to the house for 76 yards. It was pretty awesome,” Penn said.

The Highlanders earned their third win in a row with the shutout.

“I think the team all had the same goal for the night. That’s why it was so easy for us to achieve,” Penn said.

The team plans to build on their strengths to get ready for a potential postseason play.

“Nothing is confirmed and it’s still early, but based upon who we play, we are in good contention in the playoff race,” athletic coordinator, John Saras said.

So far, only Bethel has officially qualified for the playoffs in the section. The Highlanders are ready for the rest of the season, and looking forward to a potential postseason.

“We want it all. It’s important for everyone to stay healthy and motivated,” Stahl said.
