Baldwin defeats defending state champions

The boys varsity baseball team defeated defending state champion Canon-McMillan Wednesday night at Wild Things Park.
The Highlanders pulled out a 3-2 win. Baldwin already had defeated Canon-McMillan previously this season, 7-5, meaning they swept the defending champions.
“It feels good after a slower season to have such a massive win,” teammate Ryan Butler said.
Baldwin has a section record of 3-6 and a 5-8 record overall. The Highlanders have been eliminated from playoff contention, but now they have made it more difficult for Canon-Mac to qualify.
Butler explained that the team played solidly all around, but junior Nick Dolan’s pitching really helped win the game.
“It feels amazing knowing that we interfered with their playoff run, especially since they’re last year’s champions,” Butler said.
