The boys baseball team won its home-opener on Tuesday against a well-regarded Mars team, 8-7.

The win put the Highlanders’ record at 2-0.

Senior Aaron Exler hit a grand slam in the first few innings, giving Baldwin an early lead.

“It was fantastic,” junior Josh Dadig said. “He cracked the ball and it soared way over the right-field wall.”

Senior Ryan Butler congratulated the Highlanders as they “played solid” in their second game of the season.

After walking away with this win, the team is hopeful about the future.

“Only time will tell” if this win is a good sign for the rest of the season, according to Butler.

Dadig agreed.

“Mars was one of the best teams last year,” Dadig said. “I’m hopeful that we’ll make WPIAL championships.”

The team returns for an away game at Peters Township tonight, the team’s first section game of the year.
