New MLB season boosts young talent
March 27, 2019
The MLB season starts Thursday with all 30 teams playing. It has been a long winter for baseball fans and everyone is ready to watch some baseball.
There are the teams that everyone expects to do well this year, like the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees, the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers. But there are three teams that are flying under the radar this year that fans should watch out for.
The first team to watch is the Atlanta Braves, who won the NL East last year but have been predicted to come in third place this year.
The Braves have a bunch of young talent, like Ronald Acuna Jr. and Dansby Swanson, as well as veteran Freddie Freeman. The Phillies are favored because they have Bryce Harper, but the Braves can do some serious damage this year.
The next team is the Cincinnati Reds, a team that has been terrible the last couple of years and finished last in the NL Central in 2018.
With the new addition of outfielder Yasiel Puig and veterans Joey Votto and Matt Kemp, the Reds are going in the right direction. They might be able to steal a wild card spot this year.
The third team to look out for is the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Rays had a 90-win season last year and still missed the playoffs. They are in the toughest division in baseball, which is the AL East.
But the Rays have one of the best young pitchers in the major leagues in Blake Snell. This is not going to be a team that wins the division but they will get a wild card spot in the playoffs.
Everyone knows about the big-name contenders, but fans should watch out for the Rays, Reds, and Braves.
