The boys and girls track teams had their first scrimmage of the season Wednesday at West Mifflin, and many Highlanders had a strong day.

Senior Brendan O’Malley in particular had a big day, as he placed first in the 200 meters and second in the long jump.

Junior Tori Tamoborino also did well, placing second in the 100 meter. She has been pushing through with a hip injury but is working to recover.

The team hopes to use the scrimmage as a base for the rest of the year and will aim to improve throughout the season.

“The meet was pretty eye-opening for the freshmen because they have never run before,” Tamborino said. “We got an idea of who can run what, so that we can put together relay teams for the rest of the season.”

The teams’ next meet will also be at West Mifflin against for mixed relays.
